Barry Korcheski
Barry began his career at the age of 16 performing with local bands across Ontario and Quebec. As a soloist Barry performed in Canada, the southern USA, Australia and New Zealand and on several cruise ships. His versatility, smooth performance style and enthusiasm are well received by audiences in piano bars, five star hotels and restaurants, corporate venues, jazz festivals and on cruise ships. As an international performer and experienced musician Barry also enjoys performing with other bands and backing entertainers.
Barry performs in Nelson as a soloist and has also established a number of local bands including: “The Moonlighters”, “The Tahunatics”, “Hammond Eggs” and a six-piece big band featuring the “Bay Horns”.
Barry is versatile and easily embraces a variety of musical styles from county & western…to polkas… to pop…to rock…to big band standards…to latin…to children’s music…to romantic dinner music…etc. Barry is an international performer and experienced musician with the ability to sing, play bass keyboard and piano with or without computer music sequences.
Barry is a professional committed to delivering his best. Barry is an established recording artist and works easily with other musicians and venues. Barry enjoys his work and projects positive attitude, personality and humour into his work to please audiences of any size, style, mood or personality.
Some of Barry’s recent achievements include:- Participated in the Nelson Jazz Festival for the last four consecutive years.
- Performed as pianist for the musicals, “Grease” and the “Copacabana”.
- Wrote and recorded a new jingle for the local “Fresh FM” radio station.
- Featured as the entertainer for Giants New Zealand national basketball team season games four the past four years.
- Received several newspaper reviews and song writing and performance awards.
- Performed as a studio musician in several recording studios.
- Nominated as Trustee Director for the Tasman Arts and Drama Trust (TASMAD) Inc.
- Member of the Artist and Performer Rights Association (APRA) in Australia/ NZ.
Regardless of the venue…sports events, Broadway shows, concert performances, jazz festivals or crooning with baby boomers at the piano bar Barry delivers his best to please audiences of all ages.
Ideal for: background for wedding, birthday, business function, garden party, concert
It is quite common to have cocktail background piano music after the wedding ceremony while the guests wait for the bride and groom to go off and get their photos taken. eg. 1 to 2 hours of background music prior to the dinner / reception.
Barry can also play a CD between breaks and during dinner if required and provide PA, lights and a microphone for the speeches if needed.
