This exciting new Jazz Group is lead by Cabaret style vocalist Nicole Chesterman Kircher, a professional singer and entertainer for 20yrs. American trained, she has worked extensively in NZ, and toured internationally.
Formally known for her retro-folk rock group The California Dreamers and an ex-member of The NZ Pink Floyd Experience, her style of singing effortly falls into many genres. Introducing Robert Keeton on Piano/keyboards Victoria Music Grad (Member of Hitchcock Railway - NZ's Joe Cocker Tribute Act, formerly of The Benj Berryman Hiptet.) And Michael Duffy on the Upright double bass (Newtown Rocksteady, and Roseneath Centennial Ragtime Band). Nils Olson provides the reeds - clarinet and sax, from (The Andrew London Trio, The Dancing and Drinking Society, NZ Airforce Band) All of the High Society members have played internationally, at private events, cruises and festivals.
Wellington is the Capital of Jazz music and these guys use the best musicians available to create the right music for the right venue.
Their repertoire is a mixture of jazz, blues, soul and pop from the 1920's through to now. Styles that have inspired them include Post-modern Jukebox and Electric Swing Orchestra.
High Society has been described as a "Grab bag across the decades", "a potted-history of modern music in cabaret style". Just like the Bebop Cats of the 40's, the swing guys, and popular ensemble players, these players take showtunes and make it their own.
Bassist Mike Duffy says, "Jazz is about breaking down and defying expectations and the High Society Jazz Group are heavily rooted in that tradition, taking elements harking right back to the 1920's and creating a classic post-modern smoothie".
High Society cover standards made famous by Etta James, Fred Astaire, Electric Swing Orchestra, Fats Waller, Sam Brown, Dr. John, Barbara Streisand, Post-Modern Jukebox, Tony Bennett, Amy Winehouse, Dusty Springfield, Natalie Cole, Brazil 66, Chet Baker, Meghan Trainor, Lady Gaga, and many many more...
High Society can play as a Trio, Quartet, Quintet, and Septet - something to suit every budget and every occasion
